joie de vivre at Avenue House School!
Our homage to the French language inspired on Friday, 17th November. Entertainment in the form of Moliere, cuisine typical of the country, an experience of café culture and traditional songs featured in a delightfully avant-garde day with a certain je ne sais quoi.
The language was brought alive with pupils propelled into a Parisian frame of mind as they ordered in our Café de Flore and sampled regional cheeses. Pupils and staff donned red, white and blue or similarly French themed attire for a day to remember.
Life as a waiter or waitress in a vibrant bustling Paris café proved tough for those taking orders from discerning customers with high expectations. Fortunately, all were rewarded with a beverage and choice of pastry - much appreciated, following the demands of ordering accurately à la française. With chicken chasseur on the lunch menu and crêpes to finish, there was plenty to delight the palate.
Producing delightful artwork in the style of Matisse or Monet added yet a further dimension to a wonderful and unique experience for children throughout the school. French vocabulary and phrases are sure to be retained for some time to come following their usage in such an engaging and thoroughly enjoyable forum.
“Pupils know that staff, who are very good role models, have high expectations of their behaviour and their response to this is exemplary.”
