Pastoral Care

At the heart of any pastoral care system is a loving, caring and nurturing environment...

At Avenue House it's at the heart of the school

Being a small school we are able to engender a much more direct and sensitive approach in enabling each individual pupil to flourish and grow. As was reflected in our recent inspection report; it is not simply that we have an outstanding and thorough ongoing policy, but more importantly have translated this in to a working and workable model and process, that evolves as the nuturing pastoral process demands.

Our 'outstanding' Child Protection and Safeguarding system and an exemplary Health & Safety record creates a safe environment.  It works in practice through a committed like-minded staff and continual interaction between pupils, parents and teachers.  It is reinforced through continuity of values, behavioural boundaries and positive reinforcement and reward for these.  It is extended through our provision of charity events, contact with the community and access to organisations, speakers, events and visits.  It is showcased in our developed house system, the school council and playground friends work.  It is especially developed in the prefect/monitor system in which the pupils themselves engender the ethos of the pastoral life of the school family and community, with year 6 becoming the role models for the younger children.

At the core of our work, 'Every Child Matters'. We celebrate all aspects of effort, positive change, good behaviour and achievement. Every child has a real opportunity to feel comfortable, safe, valued and at home.
