The Curriculum

Pupils are taught in small classes where they can develop an excellent work ethos and achieve high standards in academic subjects, Music, Drama & Sport. A broad curriculum is taught where the emphasis is on understanding concepts.

Pupils in classroom

Pre-Preparatory

Children in the Nursery are taught in a stimulating environment. They follow the Early Years Foundation Stage Curriculum with the six areas of learning:

Communication, Language and Literacy; Problem Solving; Reasoning and Number; Knowledge and Understanding of the World; Personal, Social and Emotional Development; Creative Development and Physical Development. Children also take part in weekly French, Music, Cooking and Swimming Lessons.

Avenue House School does not test children on entry at Reception as we feel that each child develops at their own individual rate. All pupils are monitored and assessed individually throughout the year and frequent meetings between parents and the school are actively encouraged. We believe a positive approach to learning leads to excellence

Preparatory School

The Preparatory School Curriculum, whilst aware of the National Curriculum, is based on the need to prepare pupils for the relevant public examination of the parents’ choice. In conjunction with the traditional academic subjects, the children are taught French, Music, PE, Gymnastics, Art and Drama. The school has its own small Library. We also have the latest in laptop computers for all classes, with a wireless broadband internet connection installed throughout the school.
