ICT Club

Information Communication Technology

Examples of the ways in which ICT can be used:

Children first learn to use a digital camera to take a photo. They can modify these images using a paint programme any way they like. Here we tried to create disguises.

Word processing is obviously a useful tool across the whole curriculum. In Years 3 and 4 in particular we learn how to modify our writing to create different effects. The choice of font can have a big impact on the effect your writing has. Here children experimented with the font syle, size, colour. They chose specific fonts to create different effects and then chose their favourites.

ICT can be used to create works of art in many different ways. Here Year 2 used the spray can tool on black backgrounds to create fireworks and night skies.

A Chocolate Making Project

In ICT Club sometimes we learn new skills and sometimes we apply these skills in a project. This is one of my favourites.  We were challenged to design our own chocolate bar but it wasn't as simple as you might think.

First of all we had to evaluate what was already out there. We made a spreadsheet to compare the size, weight and cost of different chocolate bars.  Then we had to think of our ingredients. Using Publisher we created our recipe and then we designed the wrapper using some of the autoshapes and word art in Word.

Finally we got to actually make the chocolate bar itself. Some were made with chocolate and biscuits, others had marshmallow chunks hidden inside. One even had salt and vinegar crisps mixed into the chocolate - What would you put in yours?
