School Mascots

An Avenue House pupil explains what our mascots get up to:

Our school has four special mascots: Super-flying Koala Bear, Morris the Moose, Barnaby Bear and Kanga the Kangaroo.
Every holiday four lucky children who are going away get to take a special mascot with them on their trip. We decide who the lucky children are by putting people’s names onto a slip of paper and then picking them at random out of a hat. Then when someone comes back to school they bring souvenirs, pictures and give a talk in assembly about their trip. Last year the skiers took Morris to Italy on our school Ski Trip and the people who went on the Black Mountain activity holiday took Barnaby Bear to Wales.

One time a pupil called Gurkireth took Morris the Moose to Sutton Hoo. They both had a great time at Sutton Hoo and saw the golden belt buckle and the Sutton Hoo helmet. They learnt about King Raedwald who was the King of East Anglia and how the Anglo-Saxons used to bury their treasure at the burial site.

New York - 2008.

During the Summer Half Term, Barnaby went to New York with a Year 6 pupil. Read what Barnaby did and saw in New York:

"We went to New York in the Half Term. We took Barnaby bear. My favourite part was sight seeing on an open top Double Decker bus. I liked the fact that they had open tops. The bus took us to Canal Street where we bought T-shirts and my mum bought some handbags. The bus also took us to China town where we had lunch. We went on the Staten Island ferry which took us past the Statue of Liberty. It took one minute to go up eighty-one floors of the Empire State building . When we got to the top the views were amazing. At the end of the holiday we went to see one of my mum’s friends in Brooklyn. We walked across Brooklyn Bridge. Mum’s friend took us to a pizza place and the pizza was good!"
