On Friday 9th May a World War II Day was held at Avenue House School. The pupils and staff members all dressed up for the occasion. On Friday 7th March pupils from Nursery, Reception, Beech and Willow went to Gunnersbury Park. Have a look at Beech and Willows Class pages for more about the trip.
On Thursday 6th March parents and friends were treated to a junior production of Toby's Ark, where Captain Toby, his crew and the explorers Harriet Bloom and Mr Jungletrotter set sail during the Victorian era, to return captive wild animals to their country of origin.
They are all unsure as to which country the "Thing-A-Me-Jig" comes from. The around-the-world journey took them across the seas to Africa, India, China and Antarctica. They met children from the different countries and returned monkeys, tigers, pandas and penguins to their countries of origin. Luckily a storm blew them to Peru and they discovered that it was home to the "Thing-A-Me-Jig" who they discovered was actually a kinkajou.
The children learnt about wildlife, different cultures, Victorian nautical life and explorers, and the geographical relations of countries and continents as well as the fun of preparing for and performing a most enjoyable play.
A special thanks to Mrs McCormick, Ms Whitlock and Mrs McKiernan for all the hard work they put into the production.
On Monday 3rd March pupils from Nursery, Reception, Beech and Willow came to school dressed as a character from Peter Pan in support of the Peter Pan Week.
On Friday 29th February Oak and Maple went to the Science Museum. Read more about the trip on the class pages.
On Tuesday 12th February a representative came to talk to all the children about GOSH and what exactly it is that they do.
The children asked lots of questions and learned about what is needed to make children's lives better whan they are in hospital. Things are made to be bright and fun so that children feel more relaxed when they are away from home.
Some of our pupils were surprised to learn that children who are in hospital for longer periods actually have schooling. The children like it because going to school feels normal and when you are in a strange situation anything that makes you feel more normal can be very important.
GOSH also provide beds for family members to stay overnight so that children do not have to be on their own.
The children from Avenue House School can help GOSH by completing the 'Body Challenge' or 'Picture Challenge'.
Each child has been given a leaflet that contains one of the challenges and a sponsorship form. The children have to find as many body words or pictures as they can. They can be sponsored for each word that they find or for simply completing the challenge.
All the money raised will go towards an important cause. Remember that even a few pence from each child can really make a difference.
The children can bring any money raised back to school in the envelope provided before 7th March.
Avenue House had a very special visitor, the Mayor of Ealing. The Mayor came to meet the children and also awarded one pupil with a prize that she won for coming third in a local competition. The children sang to the Mayor who was very impressed.
