Avenue House School Policies
Avenue House School is a small, friendly co-educational independent school for pupils from ages 3 to 11. Deciding on the right school for your child is very important, and we believe that a personal visit is invaluable. We very much hope that you and your child will visit the school and we are very happy to welcome prospective parents and their children at any time. Please contact the School to arrange an individual appointment to discuss your child.
Our aim is to encourage applications from children with as diverse a range of backgrounds as possible. This enriches our community and is vital in preparing our pupils for today’s world. Avenue House School is committed to equal treatment for all, regardless of a child’s race, ethnicity, religion, or social background.
We welcome pupils with special educational needs, providing that our Learning Support can offer them the help that they require. We accept pupils with physical disabilities provided that our site is appropriate for them. However, we advise parents of children with special educational needs or physical disabilities to discuss their child’s requirements with the School before applying, so that we can make adequate provision for him/her. We will discuss thoroughly with parents and their medical advisers the adjustments that can reasonably be made for the child if he/she becomes a pupil at the school.
We do not test children upon entry to the Foundation stage. Even if a child is a confident speaker in the Foundations stage, this may not be reflected in their academic ability and vice versa. Children are, however, required to attend one or two introductory sessions before entry to ensure that we are able to offer the appropriate education for them.
Children who apply for place from Year 1 are required to spend half a day with the rest of the form where they will be assessed, before a formal place is offered.
Please note that it is not school policy to prepare pupils for other preparatory establishments. Places will be offered to children whose parents wish them to continue their education at Avenue House School until the age of 11, with the exception of personal relocation.
In order to cope with the academic and social demands of Avenue House School, pupils should be confident English speakers. If tuition in English as an Additional Language (EAL) is required, this can be arranged at the parent’s expense.
Copies are on the School’s web site and will be made available to parents as part of the admissions process.
We hope that you and your child do not have any complaints about our admissions process; but copies of the School’s complaints procedure is on the school website and a paper copy available to view in the school office.
